Today my mom wasn’t home, so my eight year old sister asked me to set some words for her so she could write her daily sentences. I knew she did them every day, but I’ve never bothered to read them before.

My sister is a lot of things. She’s extremely smart, fairly quiet, and absolutely hilarious. But today I learned two new things about her:

a) my sister does not have a way with the written word

b) my sister is addicted to crack cocaine

I don’t know what the fuck she’s smoking but I want in on it sweet baby jesus I did not know what to do with myself while I was reading some of these

what is wrong with her

I don’t even understand what some of these mean

Tell someone you love them today, because life is short. But SHOUT it at them in German, because life is also terrifying and confusing.

Reasons why survivor-blaming (or victim- blaming) is bad…

1. Convicting an innocent person of a crime committed against them of wanting attention is psychological torture and a cruel and unusual punishment.

2. The guilty person goes free, safe in the knowledge that they are not being held responsible for the pain and scars they have caused and left behind. They can safely commit that crime again.

3. It sets a precedent that all survivors of crimes committed against them actually are the guilty party and therefore are no longer survivors and instead perpetrators. Their experience and trauma is erased or worse, ridiculed.

4. Other survivors and future survivors lack a reason to come forward about their traumas.

5. Conviction of criminal acts stays with a person. In the future, that person has to explain to schools, jobs, and anyone who has access to that record why they were convicted. They have to explain that they were wrongly accused and convicted, and really, who believes someone after they’ve been convicted*?

*People overall desire to have faith in the judicial system, because it is too terrifying to think any court would put an innocent person in jail and let a criminal go free, despite how often it happens.
